Stealth Drives - Tools and Materials

A few tools and materials we'll need to do the job. No soldering, just some Dremel work and maybe some hot glue.

The before pic

The drive mounted normally. Note the swank spider-man badge. This would be my son's PC... Also, in the upper right is the drive cover that was stealthing the drive I'm replacing...

Tools needed

The stuff we'll need:

  • The optical drive
  • The drive bay cover for your case.
  • Some velcro with adhesive backs
  • Something to depress the eject button... I used a self adhesive rubber foot I picked up at Radio Shack, others have used Lego pieces or pencil erasers.
  • Something to cut the drive cover. A Dremel works great.
  • Possibly a hot glue gun...
  • A paperclip and some tiny screwdrivers...
