Flip the PCB over and locate where the LED is soldered.

Carefully desolder the LED by applying heat to the solder junction and rocking the LED assembly back. Repeat, alternating between the LED leads until it comes free. If you have desoldering braid, use it to remove the solder from the junction first.

Now we need to free the LED assembly from the red LED. I used a Dremel to shave the plastic from the top of the LED. Don't touch the bottom as the LED shines through it to illuminate under the optical detector.

Note: There is no need to cut the housing if your ultra-keen senses notice the tab between the leads holding the LED in place. Just snap that guy and the LED slides out of the housing.
